Hi! I am still an undergraduate in Industrial Engineering in Bilkent University and I hope I will graduate soon with this summer school. I have completed my high school education in Ankara Gazi Anadolu Lisesi.

During my academic lifetime, I have completed two different internships at Tepe Betopan and Philips-Turk T.A.S. In this period, I have experienced production planning, product design and sales & export environment. During my internship in Philips-Turk T.A.S I performed madly efforts to experience S.A.P modules; unfortunately they never let me to do it. Anyway, this year I have been involved in a design and implementation of a MRP system for the boeing 737-800 aircrafts repair and maintanence parts Project with my five collegues from university. And, as i have learned from the Project and from the I.E courses, i have recognized the importance of the ERP systems and my intention to work on it.

My career goal is, to achieve a statue of systems and processes analyst as an Industrial Engineer that is capable of analyzing, interpreting and performing further researches, improvements and innovations for systems and processes.

The MBA675 ERP Systems: Strategy and Practice course will help me in learning the general knowledge and experiences of the ERP systems from the Business Administrator`s point of view. The benefits of this course will be crucial for me, in terms of gaining the necessary knowhow about the ERP systems, as a systems and processes engineer candidate.

The interesting thing about me is; i am stil an undergraduate waiting to be graduated at end of 2007-2008 summer semester, alhough i take this course by obligation, i am glad to have the chance to benefit from it to achieve my career goals. However, i have regretfully got used to be a late reacting person (in terms of accomplishing the given tasks on time) within slowly processing undergraduate environment compared to MBA. I hope i will beat this threat in this course.

I am a management undergrad at Bilkent University. I will graduate (hopefully:)) this September.

I see education as a two direction thing, opposed to the common notion that knowledge flows from teacher to student. I evaluate my teacher, and work only hard enough that I will get the grade I gave my teacher ^^. There's a note for Mrs. Eseryel! To be honest, I am not the type of guy who will work hard to get that 4.0 CGPA.

Returning to the bio,
I originally come from a very small town in Aydın, Turkey. All my life I moved from city to city, around the world. There really is not anywhere I would call home but earth itself. Hey that sounds tacky:)

I have always been very involved with all sorts of art, and plan a career in some field of it. Maybe music, maybe painting, maybe cinema. For now I work on all of them.

I chose to study management because my father wanted so. I have not the least interest in this field, yet people say I am talented at sales.

I worked overseas (in African countries) for a while as "market developer" for Turkish and European firms, mainly in construction industry. It is a new type of job that is only emerging. You can get commissions from all over the supply chain and make more money than anyone involved in it. But takes a lot of effort. Anyone up to it should not miss the opportunity. It is not for me though.. :)

I started playing this game called Travian two years ago. I liked it. Now I am working as a volunteer for the game. If you have accounts on any Turkish server, let me know!!:)

Bio of Basak Tektemur

My name is Basak Tektemur. I have studied Molecular Biology and Genetics at Bilkent University and graduated at January 2007. I started MBA at Bilkent University September 2007 and I am going to finish it at the end of the summer school, July 2008. I am going to the Netherlands this august to start my MS studies on International Business at Tilburg University and I will get my MS degree in one year.
I have no job experience and since I studied science at university, my internships were not business-related. During my two internships at Bilkent and an internship at University of Toronto, Princess Margaret Hospital, McLaughlin Centre for Molecular Medicine, I concentrated on cancer research. Even though, it was a great thing to make scientific research and hands-on experiments, I noticed that a stronger biotechnology private-sector is needed for genetics to develop in Turkey. Therefore, during my last semester at university, I decided to get an MBA degree either to work in a biotechnology company or start my own. After my graduation, I am planning to work in an international company, probably for a few years abroad and then to come back to Turkey to achieve my goals and be part of the development of genetics as a science in Turkey.
I am taking this course since I think that a biotechnology company cannot be managed without an ERP system and I want to learn at least basics of the ERP systems.

My name is Ahmet. I'm from Istanbul. I am an MBA student in Bilkent University and taking this nice class.
I graduated from Bogazici University in 2004.
I did 1 year of HR Colsulting in a head hunter and later joined a small global company to establish its business in Turkey.
My Ankara days started with my military service I did as an Engineering Officer in Turkish AirForce Headquarters. In 2006, I established a company on HVAC and started this MBA.
Apart from that I am a DJ, playing for 14 years now.

My aim with the academic-work aspects of life is to do a PhD on neuroeconomics and run a couple of small companies.

Bio of goker

I am Göker CANITEZER.
I graduated from Bilkent University, Computer Science and Information Eng. dep in 1999. I got Msc. in Computer Science from Bilkent in 2002.
I worked from 1999 to 2003 as a software developer in C++ and Java. From 2003 to 2007, I was senior architect and software framework team leader. Since 2007, I am in the SAP world as a functional consultant about international railway ticketing.

I am trying to improve the software development processes/workflows in where I work. By the help of this course I will try to understand that how an ERP system can be used in a big software house and in order to be succesful what kind of analysis should be done and which aspects should be considered? If I can prepare a good report with a proper roadmap, I think that it will increase my popularity in the company.
At the end of this course I hope that I will gain a managerial point of view about implementing an ERP system. I mean all the aspects that I should consider, from cost to usage, from data providing to education of the users.

One interesting thing about me: While I was a child, I was saying that I would be driver of the garbage collection truck. When I learned java I realized that gc means garbage collector.

Hi everyone!

My name is Thierry and I'm a student of Business Information Systems at the University of Göttingen, Germany.

This program of study is not obviously not very common in some parts of the world, so let me briefly describe what it includes: After doing two years of basic knowledge in business and computer science, as introductory accounting, economics, marketing, some programming languages and theoretical computer science and statistics classas, I have to choose 5 subjects in which I will have to achieve 24 (european = ECTS) credits. There are certain restrictions to the choice, however, I focus on "Computer Science", "Business Information Systems", "Marketing", "Accounting and Corporate Management" and "Management Psychology", whereas I am considering to exchange the last one with "Operations Research". If somebody might be able to guess some German words, you're welcome to see some mindmaps I created while studying on my website.

Relevant professional experience for this course may be an internship at Deutsche Bank
in the Business Management department, where I was involoved for preparation and rollout of a new CRM System. Other employers in that sort of context I had where AVG and TNS.

My career goal is not completly set yet... I am considering IT strategy consulting as an really interesting option, but I'll have to figure out if it is like I imagine it to be. This course will help me achieving my vague career goal by giving me more insights in a very condensed time frame that will be in every case nescessary (I know I will have to deal with SAP when I return), but might rise a fascinantion for a subject I didn't really know a lot about until now.

By the end of the course I hope to have a better overview and insight about what ERP Systems are really about, have a certain idea about the look&feel, strategic issues, and of course, some anecdotes from somebody that worked with them and already gained some professional experience.

One fact about me? Many of you may already know it: I was born and grew up in Germany, but still I only have the French citizenship, although this is the very first time I live in France for a longer than two-weeks period. I'm excited about living in "my" country the very first time.

Learnings

I don't want to repeat what my fellow students already mentioned. My key learnings today where the historical developement of the ERP Systems and the first time I thought about strategic issues while choosing them, whereas the discussion open source versus proprietary software is very similar in a lot of IT (landscape) descisions and not really specific for ERP. BTW: Open Source Software can have a variety of different licensing aspects. Still, different considerations have to be made even if the descision is already made for a proprietary system, as there might be different reasons for choosing bigger or smaller players.

The group work let us consider a special enterprise and focus on the reasons for implementing an ERP in an actual firm.

A special learning is this way of organizing a lecture: Writing into a teacher's blog is a completely new expericence, this being an assessed part even more. Let's see how this works out.
